Do you believe in equity in school funding? Wonder why higher and higher property tax revenues in Marin County don’t seem to be getting to the least advantaged districts? Learn more about this effort to reclaim YOUR taxes allocated to education, for education.
We have all seen the headlines (e.g. Novato District Layoff Plan Heads to Trustees; Larkspur-Corte Madera Schools to Cut $1M).
Why are some districts making even larger cuts than others in our grossly underfunded education system? One reason: it simply costs more to educate a child in Marin than in Merced. That’s reality. Local tax revenues recognize it, but our state school funding system does not take it into account.
Please join us on Sunday, March 31, from 4-5 pm at Elizabeth Estes’ home in Kentfield to find out how have an imPACT and reclaim $51 million of ‘excess’ Marin County property taxes allocated to your schools.
More information about Marin County is here, and more information about our campaign to adjust school funding for cost of living is here.
Look at what the impact of equitable funding would be by district. Note that, even after equalizing school funding, there would still be over $12 million in Marin’s 'excess education coffers' for other expenses. Only Sacramento can make the simple change that would bring incredible relief to Novato, San Rafael and other large districts -- and help also to smaller ones!
